WHAT IS THIS EXPO ABOUT & WHY DOES THIS EXPO EXIST?

With almost a century of misinformation about Cannabis and hemp behind us, we established the HHI Expo to bring all the research, science, innovation, products, industries and uses of hemp together under one roof. Anyone interested in the many uses and benefits of this incredible and versatile plant - be it as a food source, textile, medicine or carbon negative building material – can experience and learn about it first-hand at the expo.

IS HEMP ILLEGAL IN AUSTRALIA?

Not anymore! As of November 12 2017, changes to the Food Standards Code came into effect in Australia, legalising the growth and sale of low-THC hemp seed as a food.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CANNABIS AND HEMP?

Misinformation has clouded the distinction between Cannabis and  Hemp, but it’s important to be clear that Cannabis and Hemp are not the same thing.

Cannabis is a family of plants that contains a variety of different compounds called Cannabinoids. The most dominant of these are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the active compound in certain strains of the plant which induces psychoactive effects, while CBD doesn’t contain any psychoactive properties.

Hemp, while rich in CBD, contains a very low concentration of THC (0.3% or less) and is used for industrial purposes – being capable of producing hundreds of crucial resources such as oils, food products, biofuel, paper, textiles, building materials and more.

With the fast-growing popularity of CBD across the globe, hemp is also used to produce a wide variety of THC-free CBD products.

WHAT IS HEMP USED FOR?

Hemp is a natural and sustainable alternative that is used in hundreds of different products! From food and beverages, to skin care, building products and clothing, hemp is swiftly becoming the natural way to live worldwide. The benefits are massive - come along to the Expo to learn more!
